Please give me a break 'DEPLORE' !!!! yes it was better, and yes poppies was just a sand road, and there were no shops between Kuta and Seminyak, just rice fields and cows grazing. The pollution, rubbish, plastic, has actually be created by the tourist population. and nothing has been done to fix this situation, despite many meetings, conferences and gobble de guk!!!
Scout, like you just asked, what does your post have to do with the original post(ie, the next Bali)!? :)
As for us Bule changing Bali, its all a matter of perspective. While we may wish it was undiscovered, plastic was coming anyway, and think of all the people that have been lifted out of poverty, and in many cases lifted into great weath, as a result. I'm sure they're glad we stopped in.
So with the potential to improve lives, and people like us looking for paradise, you'd think there is another Bali, still sitting there, undiscovered. Just as nice as Bali was 30 years ago. North Sulawesi? Way out East somewhere? Seems to me that no one much cares to stay over in Lombok, and that has worked to contain the tourism in a Cold-War sort of way. But with 20,000 islands....surely there's another!
Of course, same-same but different :)
So lets hear a few candidates and we'll send out the scouting missions....I'd love to build a villa over in the "Next Bali" and y'all welcome to join for Bintangs on the porch :)
